If an employee is ill for a long time and reintegration into your own position (Track 1) is no longer feasible, as an employer, you are obliged to start a Spoor 2 reintegration process. But what does that mean exactly? And how do you do it properly so that both you and the employee are helped?

In this article, we provide clear explanations and practical tips for HR professionals.

What is Spoor 2 reintegration?

Track 2 is a process in which the sick employee is guided to appropriate work with another employer. It is the second route as part of the Gatekeeper Improvement Act, and comes into the picture when returning to your own organization is no longer realistic.

When do you need to start Track 2?

Track 2 usually starts after the first year of illness, as soon as it is clear that relocation within your own company is not possible. As an employer, you are obliged to start this process in time - often advised by a company doctor or employment expert.

What are the goals of Track 2?

  • Helping the employee to return to appropriate work sustainably
  • Properly comply with the reintegration obligations as an employer
  • Prevent health costs and sanctions from UWV

What are your obligations as an employer?

  • Call in a certified reintegration party
  • Actively participate in the action plan
  • Conduct regular progress interviews and reports
  • Document track 2 properly in the reintegration file

How do you choose a good partner for Spoor 2?

Please note these points:

  • Demonstrable experience with Spoor 2 processes
  • Regional expertise and national coverage
  • Clear communication and transparent reports
  • Personal approach focused on sustainable employability
