Outplacement: support towards a new future
What is outplacement?
Outplacement supports you in finding a suitable next step. The cost is usually covered by the employer, for example on the basis of arrangements set out in the settlement agreement. The programme is modular: together with your coach you pick the components you need, from a career scan and interview training to active job matching. Before the programme starts, we agree clearly which elements are included and what the corresponding costs are. If networking suits your search direction, it can be introduced early in the programme alongside other ways of approaching potential employers.
Want to see how a programme runs? It is described in what an outplacement programme involves.
What does an outplacement process look like at Care4Careers in Groningen?
Our approach in 5 steps
These five steps together make up the outplacement programme. Self-insight, application skills, network and labour-market approach are covered in turn. Outplacement supplies the direction and confidence to actually take those steps.
Many people opt for a modular programme: together with your coach you decide where to put the effort. Here you will find our modules.
Personal intake
Step one is clarity: what has been agreed, where you stand and what you want to achieve. Only then do we make a plan.
Coaching and assessments
Step two maps what you bring. Assessments and conversations reveal what you can do, including the things you take for granted.
Labour market preparation
Step three is the market: which organisations in Groningen and the province suit you, and what do they need.
Job search and networking
Step four is going public. CV, profile and interviews in order, and your northern network actively approached.
Aftercare and guidance
Step five continues after you have started, because the first months determine whether the choice was right.

When another workplace becomes the new starting point
When outplacement is used
Departure can be planned or unexpected. We use the circumstances to determine where your external search should begin.
Reorganisation removes your position
If no internal continuation is available, we translate your experience into possibilities outside your current employer.
Your contract reaches its agreed finish
The time before departure can be used to create direction and build an approach, meaning progress already exists when employment ends.
Employer and employee jointly decide to terminate
A mutually arranged exit may include a career transition budget, supporting structured preparation for your next move.
Sustainable return after absence is not possible
If employment then ends, we reassess what kind of work and conditions are realistic.
Outplacement in Groningen
From work to work, and started in good time
Sending a hundred applications backfires here. Twenty well-prepared conversations at the right organisations yield more, and that takes time.
We know the northern employers
Healthcare, education, government, IT and energy together account for most of the jobs here. Which of those five suit your experience is what we work out together.
Much of it runs through people
In the north people know each other across organisations. That works in your favour once your network knows you are available; see networking to find work.
Up to half an hour simply counts
Assen, Hoogezand, Veendam, Leek and Winschoten are within half an hour. We work that travel time out in advance rather than afterwards.
Components taken separately
Eight of them, and you pay for what you use.
What you are working towards
You have found work here without leaving for the Randstad ever turning out to be the only option.
Who will guide you

You work with a dedicated coach who knows your profile and helps you search purposefully for opportunities that fit your experience and ambitions.
Our office
Outplacement in Groningen and nearby
In Groningen our location is the Brugstraat, between the Grote Markt and the Noorderplantsoen. Groningen is the only genuinely large city in the north of the Netherlands, and that shapes the entire labour market: the UMCG hospital is by far the biggest employer, and around it sit education and research, IT, agrifood and everything attached to the energy transition. Anyone wanting to stay notices that senior-level supply is thinner than in the Randstad. That is no reason to leave, but it is a reason to choose more deliberately.
How much time you have decides almost everything here. Start well before the end date and you can choose; knock on the door in the final month and you take what is available. In a region with fewer employers that weighs more heavily than in the Randstad, and for the employer the same holds: starting early keeps more options open.
About Groningen
Good to know about Groningen
Healthcare and education drive the region
The UMCG, the Hanze university of applied sciences and the university together account for a large share of employment. Experience gained there transfers readily across the north.
Energy has turned into a growth sector
Hydrogen, grid reinforcement and the activity around the Eemshaven are creating work that barely existed ten years ago. Technical and project-based profiles benefit most.
Brugstraat, in the old centre
Walkable from the main station and cyclable from every district. For people coming in from the province, working online is often more practical, and that is entirely possible.
The province is part of it
Assen, Hoogezand, Veendam, Leek, Winschoten and Delfzijl all sit within half an hour. We count those towns as the same labour market, because that is what they are.
Starting early matters most here
The supply is thinner, so a suitable role comes by less often. Anyone with the time to wait for the right one also finds it.

The labour market in Groningen
Groningen runs on healthcare, education and energy, and the openings sit largely in that same corner plus engineering and IT. That makes a move within the region more realistic than the image of a thin northern labour market suggests.

Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about outplacement
Do I have to move to get ahead here?
That depends on your role and personal circumstances. Together, we determine what commuting time is realistic for you and how broadly you want to define your search area.
I work in healthcare and want out. Can I do that without starting over?
Yes. Experience with patients, rosters and responsibility transfers well into planning, quality, training and policy work. Often within the same sector, just in a different role. In a region where recruiters search from a distance, optimising your LinkedIn profile pays off.
What about fixed-term contracts at the university?
When an appointment ends there is no dismissal protection, but the same labour market demand applies. We prefer to start a few months before the end date, so there is time to choose.
What does a programme cost and who pays?
The employer pays in almost every case, and the amount is normally set out in your settlement agreement. Getting acquainted costs nothing. The introductory conversation is free. Have it reviewed by a lawyer and map out your transition payment as well. Outplacement runs from 2,000 to 5,000 euro excluding VAT, and you settle up per component.
Do you also work with people from Friesland or Drenthe?
Certainly. A large share of our clients live outside the city. Sessions can take place on the Brugstraat or entirely online, which from Delfzijl or Assen is often more practical.
Where can I find Care4Careers in Groningen?
Brugstraat 7A, 9712 AA Groningen, in the city centre. Let us know in advance that you are coming and the coach who works most on your kind of question will be there.
Do you travel outside the city?
Yes. Our working area covers the whole province plus part of Drenthe: Assen, Hoogezand, Veendam, Winschoten, Leek and Delfzijl. At our location or by video.
Is the market here not simply too small?
For some specialisms it is. Then the question becomes whether you widen your direction or your search area. Either is possible, but it is a choice to make deliberately rather than postpone.
