Second-Track Reintegration

Reintegration agency in Gorinchem

Once it becomes clear the original role will not return, the question is which work does fall within reach. We work that out from the Edisonweg by the Merwede, with Utrecht, Den Bosch and Dordrecht each half an hour away, and we keep the file as the UWV requires.

Second track explained

Work with another employer, in a district of family firms

Where a return to the original role is ruled out and the employer has no suitable place internally, the second track comes into force. What remains possible is settled first; capacity is raised after that, and approaching employers comes last of all. The structure is described at the second track programme.

The statutory obligation is one thing; around Gorinchem how the companies are put together counts as well. Metalworking, shipbuilding, installation and trade are frequently in their second or third generation here. There is rarely an HR department, but there is always someone who decides, and that calls for agreements you record carefully yourself.

Our office

Second-track reintegration in Gorinchem and nearby

Our Gorinchem location stands on Edisonweg, on the estate by the Merwede. The larger part of the jobs here sits in metalwork, shipbuilding, transport and healthcare, with a dense layer of family businesses around them. In that setting working for yourself is no exception, and after a forced departure the question regularly comes up: do you still want to be employed at all.

About Gorinchem

Good to know about Gorinchem

Many firms here are family businesses

Metal, shipbuilding, installation and trade are often in their second or third generation. That means short lines, few formal procedures and an interview that is mostly about the person.

Working for yourself is ordinary here

In engineering and construction a sizeable share of people work on their own account. That puts the step close by, but it does not make it sensible by itself.

Three directions, thirty minutes' driving each

Gorinchem sits where the A15 and A27 cross, which puts Utrecht, Den Bosch and Dordrecht each half an hour away. That gives you three labour markets at once with no question of moving house, and it weighs heavily when your trade exists at only a handful of employers.

What the programme looks like

From intake to aftercare, step by step

These six stages are known collectively as the second track programme. Nothing changes about the series; the content does, and the Gatekeeper Improvement Act prescribes how it is written up.

1

Intake meeting and situation overview

What did the work founder on? That is what the first conversation must produce. With physical work that concerns lifting, postures or the length of a shift, which is something other than no longer mastering the trade. We also go through the medical opinion, the working past and the wishes, from which follows an action plan that meets the requirements.

2

Capacity analysis & occupational health assessment

The second stage substantiates capacity. What work remains follows from the FML and the accompanying documents. Lifting, standing and shift length are each assessed in their own right. What emerges becomes the goal in the reintegration plan, and those involved are brought up to date monthly.

3

Career scan & personal coaching

The third stage is about the employee themselves. Tests, assignments and conversations map their craft and their limits, and the resulting profile has to read outside their own trade as well.

4

Labour market exploration & job matching

The profile is then compared with what is being asked for. Metal, transport and healthcare recruit in this district, and with Utrecht, Den Bosch and Dordrecht included the range grows. If the move is too big to make in one go, a practical period comes first.

5

Active job search & network approach

Here the employee goes out to firms in person, whether or not anything is advertised. With family firms that often yields more than answering an advertisement. Their CV and profile point towards the chosen course, and every week we go through what it yielded.

6

Aftercare and sustainable placement

Two months of aftercare close it off. That is when it shows whether the load is sustainable and whether the agreements made are being honoured. Reporting and the final report come from the coach, who stays reachable in that period.

The basis for second track

Four points this programme rests on

At review, only what has been recorded counts. These four points decide whether the file can carry it.

  • What can the employee still manage?

The occupational health assessment fixes the boundaries. In metalworking and shipbuilding it comes down to lifting, postures and vibration, each of which is judged on its own.

  • Can the role shift at the same company?

In a family firm a position can be adjusted without a reorganisation being involved. That creates room, but put the agreements in writing and note why they did or did not work.

  • Is going self-employed sensible?

Plenty of people here work on their own account in engineering and construction, so the step is close at hand. Within a reintegration programme it carries its own risks, and that weighing belongs on the table beforehand and in the file.

  • Where is capacity built up?

In a working environment, not at home. A stretch of weeks in a work experience placement settles which load is bearable, and it stands as evidence.

A sustainable next step

There is work matching what the employee can physically manage, with agreements on paper and a file that shows the route.

Metal, shipbuilding, transport and healthcare

Why employers in Gorinchem and the Alblasserwaard work with us

Metalworking, shipbuilding, transport and healthcare provide most of the jobs here, with a dense layer of family firms around them. Absence in those sectors often stems from physical load, and then which element gave way decides more than the job title.

Decisions come quickly here

At a family firm you are straight through to whoever is responsible. That saves time, though the formal process is often missing, so whatever is agreed you have to put on paper yourself.

Three directions, half an hour each

Gorinchem sits where the A15 and the A27 cross, putting Utrecht, Den Bosch and Dordrecht all within half an hour. That widens the range, provided the travelling fits alongside the build-up.

Experience carries weight here

In engineering, employers look sooner at what someone can demonstrably do than at the certificate they hold. For anyone trained through practice that is an advantage which has to show in the profile.

Recording happens straight away

Conversations and outcomes we note the same day, with the date. Nothing needs updating afterwards.

Questions from Gorinchem and the surrounding area

What employers here put to us

When should we start?

No later than week 52, and if the company doctor establishes earlier that the original work has lapsed, you begin at that point. With physical complaints, starting early weighs extra, because building up takes time there. Timescales differ from stage to stage and are described at the duration of a second track programme.

How much does second-track reintegration cost?

That depends on the duration and on the components you deploy. Placement on its own does not amount to much. Once assessment, coaching and a practical period join it, the figure rises. You are shown the composition and the amount before the first appointment is made.

Our employee wants to continue as a freelancer. Is that possible within the second track?

It is open to discussion, but it is a separate route with its own risks. Income is uncertain and the fallback of employment no longer applies, so we establish whether the plan is realistic and record that reasoning. Without it, the choice is hard to defend at review.

How broad is the search area?

As far as capacity allows. Leerdam, Vianen, Sliedrecht, Hardinxveld, Meerkerk and Zaltbommel are close by, with Utrecht, Den Bosch and Dordrecht half an hour away. We agree that boundary in advance.
