Second-Track Reintegration
Reintegration office in Delft
Is the old role no longer within reach? From Delft we take over track 2: assessing, placing and recording, in Dutch or in English.

Trusted by organisations that invest in their people

Track 2 in brief
Finding other work when the employee's own role is no longer viable.
If the employee's own role is definitively out of reach and nothing suitable exists internally, second-track reintegration follows. From that point the employee looks for a new direction, restores confidence and becomes active in the labour market. The phases of the programme are described separately.
For employers this is a statutory obligation, but also self-interest: it limits long-term absence and keeps a sanction from the UWV away.
Our office
Second-track reintegration in Delft and nearby
The Delft location sits on the Marshalllaan, in the south of the city and a short cycle from Delft Campus station. Few cities of a hundred thousand hold such a sharp split in qualifications inside one labour market: doctoral researchers at Technopolis, engineers at the research institutes, and skilled trades in installation work and the Westland greenhouses. What a career move demands of you here depends on your qualification more than it would anywhere else.
Absence looks very different across this city. For a researcher it often involves years of performance pressure and a contract hanging on a grant; for a fitter or a grower it involves physical load that accumulates. Each calls for a different track 2. Our job is twofold: find other work that does fit, and build a file along the way that the UWV can follow.
About Delft
Good to know about Delft
Research, industry and horticulture side by side
The TU, TNO and Deltares sit a few kilometres from the greenhouses of the Westland. Two labour markets that barely touch, while both are short of people.
Applying here often happens in English
At Technopolis and among the spin-offs English is the working language. That opens doors for internationals and occasionally closes them for Dutch candidates who never translated their CV.
The Hague and Rotterdam a quarter of an hour away
Both cities are nearer than most Delft residents realise. Widening the search to Zoetermeer, Rijswijk and Schiedam doubles the number of suitable roles in one move.
Marshalllaan, Delft Campus round the corner
You can park outside and the trains stop within walking distance. Would you rather not come in? Then we hold the session online; tell us your preference beforehand.
Look past the job title in knowledge work
Someone who can no longer research at full stretch can often still supervise, edit or coordinate. Those partial roles exist, but they rarely appear online as vacancies.
Judge physical load per task, not per job
In installation work and horticulture the problem usually sits in two or three specific actions. Remove those and a workable role remains more often than expected.
What the programme looks like
From intake to aftercare, step by step
A second track programme at Care4Careers offers structure, perspective and personal guidance towards suitable work with another employer. Every programme is tailored to the employee and meets the requirements of the Gatekeeper Act and the UWV.
Intake meeting and situation overview
It starts with a conversation that is given time. What is medically possible. What the employee has done. Where they want to go. Those three answers together form the action plan, which fits inside the UWV's frame and inside reality.
Capacity analysis & occupational health assessment
The FML marks the limits, the other medical documents fill that in. From it follows what work remains. A reintegration plan comes with goals that can be checked. Employer, company doctor and UWV hear monthly how it is going.
Career scan & personal coaching
Tests, assignments, conversations. All three bring up something different: what someone can do, what drives them, where the give has gone. The employee gets a grip on their own situation. At the end there is a search profile that holds up outside the organisation.
Labour market exploration & job matching
Then outward. Which work matches the capacity, and where it can be found. If the step is too large, a reintegration place or work experience place comes in between first. The most room is with IT, construction and healthcare, and that is what we look at first.
Active job search & network approach
Now the approaching begins. Selecting deliberately. Using the network. Writing to employers directly, including without an open vacancy. CV and LinkedIn in order, conversations prepared. Every week the coach reviews progress and adjusts. Schiedam, Zoetermeer and the Westland are within reach, so the approach does not stop at this municipality.
Aftercare and sustainable placement
Signed is not finished. The coach stays reachable for two months, because the first weeks produce the questions. The reports continue, and the closing reintegration report is delivered as the UWV requires it.

What a second track looks like here
It is not only what was done that counts, but when. We record both from the start.
Measure what is still possible first
Which tasks are achievable and for how many hours? Have that established through an occupational expert assessment instead of estimating it. See also the role of the company doctor.
Search inside before going outside
At a research institute or a large technical firm there are more roles than any manager oversees. Investigate that first, and document it.
Build up in a real workplace
A workshop rebuilds stamina in a way a living room cannot. Setting such a placement up is explained under the work experience placement.
Date every step in the record
That heads off the later argument about what was attempted. What is expected of you as an employer is set out under employer obligations.
What we are working towards
The programme ends with work that matches what is still possible, backed by an occupational assessment that sets exactly that out.
Our approach: personal, local and results-driven
Why Delft employers call us
This region combines highly qualified knowledge work with heavy physical work. Few agencies are at home in both.
We can read a technical file
What someone did at an institute or in process industry has to be understood before suitable work can be found. That saves months.
Bilingual wherever it is needed
The guidance can run in English while the reporting is delivered in Dutch. For international staff that prevents a great deal of confusion.
A wage sanction costs more than the programme
The usual 104 weeks of continued pay can be stretched by another 52. The full bill for a sick employee is broken down under the cost of a sick employee.
We say so when it will not work
If placement elsewhere turns out to be unrealistic, you hear it well before the finish line. That leaves time to arrange what comes next.
Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about reintegration
When do we have to start?
There is a hard boundary at week 52 and a practical one much sooner, namely when the company doctor writes off a return to the original work. From there the clock runs; the timeline is under how long track 2 runs. Sanctions nearly always trace back to a late start.
What does this cost?
From 2,300 euro excluding VAT, depending on duration and content. Assessment, coaching and a work experience placement push it up; placement alone keeps it at the lower end. The quote reaches you before the start.
Our employee has a fixed-term contract that is expiring. Does that change anything?
Yes, the employment ends but the obligation does not simply vanish. You remain responsible until the end date and the employee then leaves while still sick. What that means is set out under sick and leaving employment.
How do we pick a good agency?
Look at experience in your sector, at the reporting they deliver and at who the employee will actually be seeing. A checklist is available under choosing a reintegration agency.
Where is Care4Careers in Delft?
Marshalllaan 2, 2625 GZ Delft, in the southern part of the city. Parking is available and Delft Campus station is a short cycle away. Announce your visit in advance and the coach matching your background will be ready.
Is the Westland part of your patch, and Rijswijk?
Certainly. Rijswijk, Pijnacker, Nootdorp, Naaldwijk, Schipluiden, Den Hoorn and Maassluis fall inside the same area, and The Hague and Rotterdam are fifteen minutes away. For anyone living further out we run part of the sessions over video.
Our employee speaks no Dutch. Can the programme run in English?
Yes, the guidance can. Do bear in mind that the formal documents for the UWV have to be in Dutch, so we work bilingually: the conversation in English, the reporting in Dutch. What belongs in that report is covered under drafting the reintegration report.
