Few cities of a hundred thousand hold such a sharp split in qualifications inside one labour market: doctoral researchers at Technopolis, engineers at the research institutes, and skilled trades in installation work and the Westland greenhouses. What a career move demands of you here depends on your qualification more than it would anywhere else.

Everything you need to know about outplacement
I work at a research institute. Are there companies actually looking for me?
More than you would think, they simply advertise you under another name. What an institute calls a researcher appears in industry as a consultant, a specialist or a product developer. We map that translation before you start applying.
My Dutch is limited. Is that a problem?
In Delft, rarely. At Technopolis and the international companies English is simply the working language, and several of our coaches operate entirely in English. Outside the technical sector and outside this region Dutch does matter more; we factor that into the search strategy.
Should I be looking towards The Hague and Rotterdam?
Almost always. Both cities are fifteen minutes away by train and together they offer many times the number of suitable roles. We do agree how far you want to go, so the search stays focused.
Who pays for the programme?
Your employer, in nearly every case, with the arrangement written into the settlement agreement or a social plan. What it comes to follows from the modules and the duration, and it is stated in the quote you get beforehand. You start at 2,000 euro and pay for what you use, up to a maximum of 5,000, excluding VAT. So no fixed package.
How long does it take?
That varies with your starting position. A technical profile in high demand is sometimes placed within two months; a career change after a doctorate more often takes half a year. Certainly. Rijswijk, Pijnacker, Nootdorp, Naaldwijk, Schipluiden, Den Hoorn and Maassluis fall inside the same area, and The Hague and Rotterdam are fifteen minutes away. For anyone living further out we run part of the sessions over video.
I have a doctorate but do not want to stay in academia. Can you help with that?
Yes, and it is among the most common questions we get here. The trap is presenting yourself as someone who no longer wants something, rather than as someone bringing research skills into a company. We rewrite the profile and rehearse the conversation; see also interview training.
