Career coaching: professional guidance for your career

What is career coaching?

Career coaching consists of a number of sessions with the same coach, spread over several months. You map what you can and want to do, and test it against what is out there. If you only want a check on a decision already made, career advice is usually enough.

As a starting point we regularly use the career scan. Questionnaires and a few deeper sessions together produce a picture you can act on, rather than a vague hunch. If the question is which field suits you at all, making a career choice is a good place to begin.

Career coaching in The Hague

Career coaching in The Hague and nearby

Our location in The Hague is the Raamweg, on the edge of the Benoordenhout and walking distance from the government quarter. The city is known for ministries and international institutions, but most of the jobs are not there: healthcare, education, retail and professional services are by far the largest employers between them. What the conversations here have in common is that people often change worlds without changing field.

Career questions in The Hague often follow long service with the same organisation. Twelve years at a ministry or an agency builds a great deal, and also the feeling that you have no idea what you are worth outside those walls. A coach helps correct that picture, weigh what the move would cost and gain, and attach a decision to it.

About The Hague

Good to know about The Hague

Policy, delivery and consultancy overlap

Many people here move back and forth between a ministry, an agency and a consultancy over their career. That is normal, and it makes switching easier than most assume.

International work is its own category

The international institutions operate in English and on their own contract terms. We coach in English and know how an expiring appointment plays out in practice.

Raamweg, beside the Malieveld

Reachable by tram and bus from across the city and a short cycle from Centraal. Anyone who would rather stay home does the sessions by video.

One market from Wassenaar to Zoetermeer

Rijswijk, Voorburg, Leidschendam, Zoetermeer, Delft and the Westland all belong to it. Journeys inside that ring stay under half an hour.

Staying inside is often more promising than assumed

Large organisations here hold more roles than any employee knows about. We map those internal possibilities in full before looking outward.

From content to steering

The move from specialist to coordinating or managing comes early here. Whether that genuinely suits you is something we establish before you start applying for it.

Coaching in two languages

For the international community in this city we work entirely in English, including CV and interview practice.

What does career coaching at Care4Careers look like?

From stuck to choosing

Every programme is matched to the person. That is not a promise but the method.

The steps alongside serve as an example of an individual programme.

1

Intake meeting

In this phase you meet your coach and decide whether the connection is there.

2

Who am I? Why do I work? What can I do?

In this phase you look back at what you have built, outside the terminology of your own organisation.

3

What do I want?

In this phase you establish what you want and no longer want, and what that means for the roles you are after.

4

Drawing up a plan of action

In this phase you set down what you will do when, and whose door you need to knock on for it.

5

Realising the Next Step

In this phase you act on it, and your coach stays within reach while the plan gets off the ground.

What you are working towards

You know what you are worth outside your own organisation, and that changes what you dare to ask for.

What plays out in The Hague

Four questions that come up here

Four different questions, four different opening moves.

From policy to something tangible

A common wish among people who spent years in policy. In addition there is making a career switch.

Growing within your own organisation

Often more promising than leaving, provided you know which roles exist and who decides on them. We turn that into a concrete plan.

After an international appointment

When a contract at an institution ends, the question reaches wider than work alone. Those sessions run in English.

Finding pleasure in the work again

Workload, restructuring fatigue and the sense that little changes. Our piece changing jobs belongs here.

Coach The Hague

Coaching around a dismissal

A dismissal marks an ending, and at the same time the moment something new can begin.

Career coaching turns that change into growth. Not by talking the uncertainty away, but by looking with a coach at what is possible: new perspective, other chances and work that fits who you are now.

Anyone wanting to act on it combines it with an outplacement programme. Outplacement offers the structure and support to genuinely find new work.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about career coaching in The Hague

I am stuck at my grade. Does coaching help with that?

Often it does, though the outcome is not always a higher grade. Sometimes the real wish turns out to be more responsibility, sometimes different work altogether. In addition there is what kind of work suits me.

How many sessions and over what period?

Usually six sessions, spread across roughly a quarter. We publish our rates on the cost of career coaching.

Will my employer pay for it?

At many employers here they will, from the training budget or the career budget in the collective agreement. How that works is described at career guidance for employers. Reckon on 1,000 euro before VAT for a scan, more once it broadens.

Does it stay confidential?

Yes. If you pay yourself, nobody hears anything about it. If your employer contributes, we set down in advance which information is and is not shared.

Where can I find Care4Careers in The Hague?

Raamweg 4, 2596 HL The Hague. A first conversation carries no price tag and no obligation. If you plan to visit, let us know beforehand and we will set aside time with the coach who handles your type of question.

How far does your working area reach?

From Wassenaar to Zoetermeer and from Scheveningen to Delft. Rijswijk, Voorburg, Leidschendam and the Westland all fall within it, in person or online.

I have been with the same organisation for years. Is that a disadvantage?

Not necessarily, but it takes translation. Long service builds depth and a network; it is our job to make that visible to someone who does not know your organisation from the inside.
