About second-track reintegration

Work with another employer, in a region with its own pace

As soon as it is clear that the original role is gone and there is nothing suitable internally, the second track gets under way. First what remains feasible is determined, then capacity is built up, and last of all employers are approached. What those stages consist of is set out at the second track programme.

Alongside the statutory obligation, something employers in Parkstad will recognise plays a part: searching takes longer here more often than elsewhere. That argues for not waiting until the deadline presses, because every week lost at the start is a week missing at the end.

Our office

Second-track reintegration in Brunssum and nearby

Our Brunssum location stands on Brederostraat, in the middle of Parkstad. Most of the work in this area sits in healthcare, engineering and logistics, and the German border is ten minutes off. This area had to reinvent itself entirely after the mines closed, and it shows: people here often search longer than elsewhere, and that changes what is needed.

About Brunssum

Good to know about Brunssum

Healthcare grows faster here than average

Parkstad ages earlier than the rest of the country, so demand for care and welfare structurally outstrips supply. That holds for the roles around it too: planning, administration and facilities.

Aachen and Heinsberg are round the corner

The border here is not a barrier but a daily route. On the German side there is demand in engineering, logistics and healthcare, though applying there asks for different paperwork and a different CV.

Heerlen, Sittard and Maastricht nearby

All three within half an hour and perfectly doable by train. Drawing that circle means looking at the whole of South Limburg rather than one municipality.

There is parking nearby and the bus stops round the corner. From first introduction to closing it can run entirely digitally if you prefer.

What the programme looks like

From intake to aftercare, step by step

The six stages below are known together as the second track programme. The sequence does not change; what goes into it does, and the reporting follows the Gatekeeper Improvement Act.

1

Intake meeting and situation overview

In the first conversation we want to know where the work broke down. In healthcare and logistics that often concerns lifting, standing or the succession of shifts. We also go through the medical opinion, the work done previously and what the employee now has in mind. The action plan that follows meets the stated requirements.

2

Capacity analysis & occupational health assessment

Capacity is then substantiated in writing. The FML and the papers around it establish what work is left. Lifting, standing and working at varying hours are each judged on their own. What follows becomes the objective in the reintegration plan, with monthly updates to those involved.

3

Career scan & personal coaching

The career scan puts the employee at the centre. Tests, assignments and conversations map their experience and their limits, and the resulting profile has to convince outside their current sector too.

4

Labour market exploration & job matching

We then hold that profile against demand. Healthcare, engineering and logistics recruit in Parkstad, and Heerlen, Sittard and Maastricht are all within half an hour. If the move proves too far in one go, a practical period comes first.

5

Active job search & network approach

At this stage the employee contacts companies directly, whether or not a vacancy is posted. CV and profile are aimed at that direction and we prepare the interviews together; each week we review what came of it.

6

Aftercare and sustainable placement

The last two months are aftercare. Those weeks reveal whether the new demands hold up and whether the job is a fit. Across those weeks the coach can be contacted, maintains the reporting and writes the report that closes the file.

The basis for second track

Four points this programme rests on

The file is judged on what it contains. These four points decide whether that is enough.

  • What can the employee still manage?

The occupational health assessment sets the boundaries. In healthcare and logistics it often comes down to lifting, standing and irregular shifts, and each of those elements is assessed on its own.

  • Is there another position internally?

At a care institution or a logistics company, planning, administration and support sit alongside the operational work. Go along them and record which were looked at and why they did not proceed.

  • Is work across the border a realistic option?

Aachen and Heinsberg are close by and recruit in engineering, logistics and healthcare. Applying works differently there and questions of insurance and conditions need looking into, so that consideration belongs up front and in writing.

  • Where does capacity grow?

In a working environment, not at home. A period in a work experience placement shows which load holds and counts demonstrably.

What the programme should achieve

There is work that matches what they can handle physically and in terms of rota, with a file setting out the reasoning.

Healthcare, engineering and logistics

Why employers in Brunssum and Parkstad work with us

Healthcare, engineering and logistics supply most of the work here. Absence in those sectors often stems from physical load or from rotas, and that calls for an analysis reaching further than the job title.

Demand for care grows faster than supply

Parkstad is ageing ahead of the rest of the country, so institutions are structurally short of people. The same holds for the roles around them, from planning to facilities.

The border is a daily route

Aachen and Heinsberg are round the corner and engineering, logistics and healthcare are recruiting there. It is worth including that direction, provided the conditions have been checked in advance.

All of South Limburg within half an hour

Heerlen, Sittard and Maastricht are perfectly manageable by train. Drawing that circle opens up a considerably wider range than staying within one municipality.

What happens is noted the same day

Agreements and outcomes go straight into the file, with the date. Nothing has to be rebuilt later.

Questions from Brunssum and Parkstad

What employers here put to us

When does a second-track programme become relevant?

No later than week 52, and if the company doctor rules earlier that the original role is finished, you begin at that point. Searching takes longer in this region more often, so starting early pays off at the end. The timescales per stage are set out at the duration of a second track programme.

How much does second-track reintegration cost?

That depends on the duration and on what you deploy. Placement alone covers little; add assessment, coaching and a practical period and it becomes more substantial. The composition and the amount are fixed before anything begins.

Does a job across the border count as suitable work?

It can, but it needs preparation. Travel time, language and the conditions around insurance and tax all differ, and those points belong sorted out beforehand and recorded in the file. We go in that direction when it is realistic, not because the map allows it.

What travel distance is taken into account?

As far as capacity permits. Heerlen, Landgraaf, Kerkrade, Hoensbroek and Sittard are close by, Maastricht about twenty-five minutes away. We agree that boundary in advance.
