Outplacement: support towards a new future
What is outplacement?
Outplacement is guidance towards other work paid for by your employer. The arrangement is usually written into the settlement agreement. If you have just been declared redundant and do not yet know where you stand, start with declared redundant, what now.
Want to read what is in a programme first? Look at what an outplacement programme involves.
What does an outplacement process look like at Care4Careers in Haarlem?
Our approach in 5 steps
The outplacement programme has five steps. They deal with self-insight, with applying, with your network and with the question of how you approach employers. Outplacement gives you grip in a period when much is unsettled.
Many people opt for a modular programme: together with your coach you decide where to put the effort. Here you will find our modules.
Personal intake
Where do you stand, what has been agreed and how much financial room is there? Without that answer any plan is guesswork.
Coaching and assessments
What can you genuinely do and what do you still want? Assessments and conversations together give a more honest picture than a job description.
Labour market preparation
Would an outsider grasp what you offer within thirty seconds? If not, the CV, the LinkedIn profile and the story all get reworked.
Job search and networking
Who is looking for someone like you, and do they know you exist? This is where we search, approach and prepare every meeting.
Aftercare and guidance
Does the picture hold now that you are in the job? We review the opening months, so a poor start can still be corrected.

Four departure situations in which guidance may help
When outplacement is used
Why you leave does not determine where you must go. It mainly tells us which question needs answering first.
You become redundant
When the organisation removes your job, we clarify the professional value you can offer outside your current employer.
Temporary employment ends without renewal
A forthcoming end date creates time to establish direction and build a professional profile before leaving.
Employment ends by mutual agreement
Outplacement can be added to the departure arrangements and help you prepare for work elsewhere.
Returning after an extended absence is no longer appropriate
If employment ends, professional support can help identify a role that better matches your current possibilities and needs.
Outplacement in Haarlem
From work to work, within what is sustainable at home
A plan that works at the office but not at home does not last a year. So we start with the conditions and only then with the vacancies.
Three directions, three trade-offs
The city itself, the Amsterdam side, and the area towards Beverwijk and IJmuiden. Which axis weighs heaviest is yours to decide.
We know the employers here
Healthcare, education, professional services, trade and the companies in the Waarderpolder. That saves hunting for the right way in.
Work out what has to come in first
What you need as a minimum decides how selective you can be. Set your transition payment against your fixed costs before turning anything down.
Components that match your situation
Eight of them, freely combined.
What you are working towards
The work you find fits the stage of life you are in now, not the one you were in when your last job started.
Your guide
The coaches on the Diakenhuisweg
One fixed coach willing to have the conversation about money, home life and how many working years you still want, and who knows the employers across this region.
Our office
Outplacement in Haarlem and nearby
Our Haarlem location sits on the Diakenhuisweg in Haarlem-Noord, with parking at the door and the Waarderpolder round the corner. What sets this city apart is not where people work but where they live: a large slice of the working population takes the train each morning to Amsterdam, Schiphol or the IJmond. Which means the question of what comes next usually turns out to be tangled up with the question of which stage of life you are in.
A role may look like a good fit professionally but still not work in practice because of factors such as commuting time, working hours or salary. We therefore include these practical requirements in your search profile from the start.
About Haarlem
Good to know about Haarlem
Fifteen minutes from Amsterdam, and it counts
Sloterdijk is a quarter of an hour away, Schiphol roughly twenty minutes. Comfortable while it lasts. With small children at home, or with retirement in sight, that same journey suddenly weighs heavily.
The Waarderpolder is where the city works
Manufacturers, wholesalers, printers and IT firms sit together on one estate. It is where people from Haarlem find work without commuting, and where a change at one employer is noticed by its neighbours within weeks.
Healthcare, province and council as major employers
Spaarne Gasthuis, the provincial government of Noord-Holland and the municipality employ thousands between them. Careers there run long, which makes moving on after twenty years unusually complicated.
Diakenhuisweg, park at the door
Unlike the old centre, you can simply park here. From Haarlem station it is a short bus ride or cycle. Coming by? Say so beforehand and the right coach will be waiting.
Travel time is rarely a detail here
A large share of the working population takes the train to Amsterdam, Schiphol or the IJmond daily. That works fine, until it does not.
The region at a glance
The labour market in Haarlem
Haarlem leans on healthcare, professional services and trade, while the openings also sit in engineering and construction. With Amsterdam and the IJmond within reach the search area is larger than the city, which makes the trade-off about travel time all the more important.

Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about outplacement
I work in Amsterdam but live in Haarlem. Where do you search?
Both, with the IJmond added in. Most Haarlem searches run along three axes: the city itself, the Amsterdam side, and the strip towards Beverwijk and IJmuiden. Which axis weighs heaviest is your call, usually decided by travel time and home life.
Does my age count against me?
Age may raise questions during a job search, but it does not determine on its own whether a role is suitable. We make sure your profile clearly shows the experience you bring, what you want to contribute now and why your next step makes sense.
How much time does a programme take alongside a job?
Reckon on one session a fortnight plus a few hours of your own work in between. That rises during the job search phase, because you are then attending interviews as well. We schedule around your job or your caring duties, and part of it can run online.
Who pays for this?
Almost always your employer, arranged in the settlement agreement or the social plan. The cost depends on the modules and the duration; the quote is with you before we begin. The lowest price is 2,000 euro, the highest 5,000, both excluding VAT; anyone using more modules pays proportionally.
What if I actually want to work less?
Then that becomes the goal. Working less affects your income now and your pension later, so we run the numbers before you accept anything. Knowing what the transition payment contributes helps: see the amount of the transition payment.
Where is Care4Careers in Haarlem?
Diakenhuisweg 39, 2033 AP Haarlem, in Haarlem-Noord. There is parking beside the building and buses run from the station. Drop us a line before you set off, so the coach handling your kind of question is the one sitting opposite you.
Do you also cover the IJmond and the Haarlemmermeer?
Yes. Heemstede, Bloemendaal, Zandvoort, Velsen, IJmuiden, Beverwijk and Hoofddorp all belong to the same area, and Amsterdam-West effectively does too. If travelling gets in the way, we switch to video calls.
I am fifty-eight. Is outplacement still worth it?
Especially then. The search takes longer on average, so guidance pays off most at this stage. There are also Dutch schemes that make hiring older workers cheaper for employers; see hiring an older employee. That is an argument you are free to raise yourself in an interview.
